December of 2019 marked the launch of Colin James Financial Inc., with the opening of an office in New Westminster, BC. As of June 2023, the firm is proud to be partnering with Armstrong Dumontet & Co., now working with other experienced financial planning professionals.
Group Benefits have been the primary focus for Colin James Financial Inc, fulfilling a passion for helping business owners attract and maintain a valued, stable staff while looking out for employees' interests.
Before entering the financial planning business, Colin James served as the director of a non-profit employment counselling agency, assisting adults with employment challenges. In December 1996, he became licensed to sell Life and Accident & Sickness insurance with Mutual of Omaha, which was later bought by RBC Insurance. By July 1998, Colin was contracted as an independent broker with Sun Life, obtaining his insurance broker's level II licence in 1999. In 2000, he became licensed to sell mutual funds.
Being the only one of 30 advisors to still be practising in September 2002 when Sun Life closed its independent advisors' branches, Colin operated as Colin James Financial as part of a new firm for which he obtained his branch manager's licence for mutual funds to begin supervising other investment advisors. The focus of his financial planning practice switched to employee benefits in early 2004, and by August 2004, Colin joined a firm as a Chambers Plan sub-agent.
In February 2017, Colin obtained the globally recognized Certified Financial Planner ( CFP ® ) designation, recognized for excellence in professional financial planning.
Colin takes pride in working with business owners to address their business and personal financial planning needs. With a passion for comprehensive planning, he finds great satisfaction in ensuring that all of his clients' needs are incorporated into the planning process. He takes a personalized approach to financial planning, striving to provide tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of each client.
Additionally, Colin is passionate about saving his clients from being stuck with mortgage lenders' life insurance products, using proper planning techniques to ensure that all of his clients' needs are adequately addressed.
